Getting Started in Zen: Fundamentals for beginners. A 30-minute orientation is available to people wishing to join us on Thursday evenings. As everyone goes immediately into the silence from 7pm, a new person would need to know what to do beforehand. If it is possible to arrive by 6:25pm, please telephone us at 570-546-2784 ahead of time for the orientation.
Day of Silence: An easy entry event beginning at 9am for a 45 minute of zazen, followed by 15 minutes of kinhin or restroom break. It is possible to leave quietly at any time at the end of kinhin, or enter any time at the end of kinhin. At 12 noon, there will be a Silent brown bag meal, with zazen commencing once again from 1pm until 3:45pm for tea.
In Memory of Our Mothers: Because our mothers are no longer in this realm with us does not mean that we cannot celebrate them in our lives. Whether we just want to reminisce about them, or make further closure, doing so within the context of Thich Nhat Hanh's lovely tradition deepens our heart connection.
Inner Secrets of Dogen Zen: Sesshins in the time of Dogen were not held in the same way that they are now. Waking up in silence without the wake-up bell? Walking in kinhin to the restroom? Washing one's feet as part of Zen practice? Come and experience earlier ways of Zen Master Dogen's teaching, "Practice and enlightenment are not two." Sat. 1pm-Sun.11am
Beginning Women's Zen Stayover: The chance for the nourisher to be nourished. A light but personal approach to zazen for busy wives, mothers, and workers.
Returning Troops Support: Mt. Equity offers help to returning troops and their families. For more information click here.
Sojourner Programs:
Program A: 6:15 pm Tuesday/Thursday evenings through Wednesday/Friday mornings 9:00 am, an interview with the teacher.
Program B: individualized stay for major life transition.
Residency Program: For those wishing to deepen their understanding and clarity, residency is possible on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis after participation in an event at Mt Equity Zendo.
